DADIA-LEFKIMI-SOUFLI NATIONAL PARK FOREST

It is located at the southeastern end of the Rhodope mountain range in the Prefecture of Evros, at the crossroads of two continents and is the geophysical space where many species of flora and fauna of the Balkan Peninsula, Asia and Europe thrive.

EVROS DELTA – PROTECTED AREA

At the southeastern edge of Evros prefecture, on the border with Turkey, the Evros River forms an extensive Delta, of international ecological importance. A total of 28 species of amphibians and reptiles, more than 40 species of mammals, and 46 species of fish have been recorded.

SOUFLI

Well-known for its silkworm breeding and local natural silks. The three-story Brika mansion operates as a Municipal-Historical museum with a rich reference to the history of the city, while it hosts the exhibition of the rich collection of silkworms of the Chrysallida Silk Friends Association. The houses with this special architecture, also known as cocoon houses, are mainly two-story, while there are also some single-story or even three-story. They are built of stone, wood and red brick. Also visit the old Tzivre silk factory.

MONUMENTS

The coastal area between the archaeological sites of Mesimvria Zone and Maroneia, up to the port of Agios Charalambos, is unique. The passage of centuries in the Thrace region is recorded around the ruins of Ancient Ismara. Travelers who love authentic experiences can seek out the cave-church of Agioi Theodoroi, the village, the mines, and the famous Villa of Circe.

 

Other historical and religious monuments in the prefecture of Evros are the church of Panagia Kosmosotira and the Aqueduct at Feres. The archaeological site of Doriskos. The archaeological site of Traianoupolis, the Thermal Baths of Traianoupolis, etc.

BATHING ON THE BEACHES

From Alexandroupolis begins an extensive coastline of 25 km. that ends at the archaeological site of Mesimvria. Awarded with a blue flag, the beaches of the Prefecture offer a wide variety. Well-organized beaches start from the EOT coast next to the city to the Red Rocks in Chile.

SARAKATSAN VILLAGE

In Leptokarya, on a slope 650 m above sea level and 32 km from Alexandroupoli, the Sarakatsanai Association of Evros Prefecture has built a replica of a Sarakatsanai camp. The replica of a traditional Sarakatsanai summer settlement is both a living museum and a recreation area.
